Torie is a Detroit-based writer, educator, and curriculum designer whose work sits at the intersection of literacy, justice, and Black imagination. A longtime Detroit Public Schools Community District educator, she has served as a Teaching It Trill Curriculum Designer, district Curriculum Guide Writer, member of the Novel Adoption Committee, and Lead Teacher for Equity. She has facilitated district-wide book studies—including How to Be an Antiracist—and continues to lead Teach Like an Antiracist workshops.

Her commitment to culturally rooted learning extends beyond the classroom. Torie is a former Vocal Justice Teacher Fellow, a Learning to Give Teacher-in-Residence, and a contributer for the Institute for The Institute of Antiracism's Freedom Dreaming curriculum. She has presented social justice workshops through Wayne RESA and facilitated sessions for the Michigan Council for Teachers of English.
